Are Siamese Cats Dumb – Feline Intelligence & Other Facts

Are Siamese Cats Dumb – Feline Intelligence & Other Facts

At one point or another, you’ve said that your cat is the dumbest cat on the planet. Every cat owner has done it, even if you own a Siamese cat that is supposed to be super intelligent. Before you assume that your Siamese cat can only be smart, you’ll probably wonder at one point, are Siamese cats dumb?

Siamese cats are not dumb. Most Siamese cats are considered to be of at least average intelligence. They are not necessarily known to be dumb, but you may still find the occasional Siamese cat with a lower IQ.

You may have a Siamese cat with some stupid tendencies, but the Siamese cat breed is extremely smart overall. If you don’t have a lot of experience with other cats, you may not know how smart your cat is. Stick with me until the end of this article to learn more about how smart – or not! – your Siamese cat is.

How Intelligent Is A Siamese Cat

Siamese cats are very smart.

It can be challenging to say just how smart a Siamese cat is, but they are a very intelligent breed overall.

Since we can’t ask our cats to solve a few math problems or riddles, let’s look at some other indicators of a smart cat.

Tricks

You can teach your Siamese cat to do things that other cats may not be able to do, like walking on a leash.

If you put your mind to it, you may even be able to teach her to shake hands for a treat or lay down on command.

Problem Solving

I know I said a Siamese cat couldn’t solve any riddles, but they are good at figuring out how to solve problems.

For instance, let’s say that they want to be let into a room with a closed door. If they watched you open the door enough, they are most likely smart enough how to figure out how to open the door on their own too.

Are Siamese Cats The Most Intelligent Cat Breed

While Siamese cats are smart, they are not named the most intelligent cat breed.

A person who is on the lookout for an intelligent cat can certainly adopt or purchase a Siamese cat and be happy with their choice. After all, we’ve already talked about how keen Siamese cats are.

Despite their high level of intelligence, other cat breeds can actually be deemed smarter, including:

  • Burmese cats
  • Bengals
  • Scottish Folds
  • Tonkinese cats

Even within their own breed, some cats will be more intelligent than others, but if you are looking for a sharp feline, then you should feel safe choosing one of the above.

Are Siamese Cats Smarter Than The Average Cat

Compared to the average house cat, Siamese cats are very smart.

Compare your Siamese cat to any other ordinary house cat, and you will see that your Siamese is intelligent.

Everyday problems that cats face will show you that your cat is smarter.

Think about how many times your cat sticks a toy in a place they can’t easily reach. Whereas some cats will quickly give up, your Siamese cat is likely to work to get his toy back.

Let’s say you accidentally lock your cat in the bedroom. It’s happened to all of us at least once, I know. The average cat may resign himself to sleeping on the bed until you notice his absence. Your Siamese cat, conversely, will do everything he can to open the door or at least make it known that he is trapped.

Since Siamese cats are smarter than most cats, it could make your other cats look dumb, but remember that it does not necessarily mean that your other cats are indeed stupid.

Why Are Siamese Cats Smart

Genes and breed qualities make your cat bright, but there is no scientific reason for your Siamese cat being so smart.

As humans, it is difficult to explain why your Siamese cat is so intelligent. It is a quality of the breed that has been developed over decades of breeding.

Your cat’s personality will also play a role in how smart he is.

By this, I mean that Siamese cats are curious and inquisitive by their nature. This means that your Siamese cat is more likely to explore, get into things, and find out why things are the way they are.

These two things feed off each other and make it difficult to know just where your cat’s curiosity ends and where their intelligence begins!

Are Siamese Cats Smarter Than Dogs

Siamese cats can be smarter than dogs.

Since there are no tests that animals can take to determine their intelligence, it is difficult to say for certain that Siamese cats are smarter than dogs.

Plus, things get more complicated when you factor in how many dog breeds there are. Just like cats, some dog breeds are smarter than others.

Despite this, many pet owners say that their cats are more intelligent than their dogs. Since Siamese cats are so smart, it is easy to think that they are smarter than dogs.

I doubt anyone will blame you if you think one way or the other, but I would say that it is safe to assume that your Siamese cat is smarter than your dog.

What Is The Stupidest Cat Breed

Almost every cat owner has said that they have the dumbest cat in the world, but cat breeds are stupider than others.

The following are some of the stupidest cat breeds that you may find:

Persian

Though beautiful cats, your Persian cat is not one of the brightest cats in the world.

Persian cats aren’t an active breed and would much rather sleep the day away than do anything else. Even if you try to teach your Persian new things, it’s not going to be quick, so I hope you’re patient!

Himalayan

The Himalayan cat makes the top of the list for one of the dumbest cat breeds.

Though they’re ancestors of Siamese cats, Himalayan cats don’t share the same smart genes.

Himalayan cats are easily scared, which some people think makes them stupid. They don’t realize that things aren’t a threat, and they’re already long gone, even if they do!

British Shorthair

The British Shorthair is a typical household cat, but they don’t make the list for being a smart cat.

The British Shorthair is seen as stupid for different reasons than the Persian and the Himalayan cat breeds.

British Shorthair is a calm, quiet breed, so you won’t find yourself having an in-depth conversation with your cat.

Some people think that this makes the British Shorthair dumber than other cats.
