Do Cats Have Souls – Beliefs & Considerations

Do Cats Have Souls – Beliefs & Considerations

There is a time in every cat owner’s life where they start to have more profound questions than what kind of cat food is best for cats or if cats have knees or elbows. You might start to think about your cat’s soul and, by extension, what the afterlife is like for cats. That’s a big question for you, and you have to ask: do cats have souls?

It’s generally believed that cats do have souls. However, there is often a disagreement on where cats’ souls go after they die.

The question of souls in your cat is a heavy, philosophical question often driven by religious undertones. This makes the conversation complicated, but it is not impossible to talk about. I know that this will be a lot to take in, but stick with me as we talk about souls, the afterlife, and anything else you may need to know.

Do House Cats Have Souls

Yes, house cats have souls.

When you’re thinking about cats, you might wonder if house cats can have souls.

To this question, my answer is yes; house cats can have souls. House cats are no different than any other kind of cat soul. For instance, there are stray cats and big cats – all cats have souls, big or small.

For people who believe in souls, there are no souls that are “too small.” Cats are different than humans, but they have souls too.

Some may even say that cat souls – or pet souls in general – are some of the most vital souls because they are so valuable to people.

Do Cats Have A Soul Or Spirit

Many people may think that soul and spirit are the same things, but they have different meanings to different religions.

Without getting too religious or philosophical, here is the difference between spirits and souls.

The soul of the cat is everything that makes your cat – personality, experiences, and anything else.

Your spirit, on the other hand, has a much more religious undertone. Your spirit is what points you toward religion or God. Your spirit is supposed to guide you to God.

Depending on your view of the world, you might think that your cat has both a soul and a spirit; other people will believe that cats only have a soul.

In my opinion, I am inclined to think that cats have souls, not spirits.

How Many Souls Do Cats Have

Unless you believe in reincarnation, cats have one soul, but there is a saying that cats have nine lives.

Here’s where things can get confusing. When we talk about cat souls, cats only have one soul. When they pass away – even though none of us want to think about that – they use their one soul and do not have another.

However, many people like to say that cats have nine lives, which is slightly different from the number of souls your cat has.

Cats are almost always up to no good, so these “nine lives” help your cat live through events that should have killed them.

For instance, maybe your cat narrowly escaped a cat that almost hit them. Or perhaps your cat went to jump onto a high surface and completely missed the landing, yet they shake things off and go about their life.

Your cat never actually dies as they use up their “nine lives.” Plus, some cats have many more lives than nine!

Do Cat Souls Go To Heaven

If you are a Christian or someone who believes in Heaven, then you will believe that cat souls go to heaven.

Few people believe in Heaven that don’t think cat souls will go to Heaven. Most people are under the assumption that cats – and all animals – go to Heaven when they die.

Many people also believe that cats are put on Earth to help humans and guide us toward a better life. Animals serve their purpose, and when it is time to go, they are awarded Heaven in the afterlife.

On the other hand, if you are not religious or believe in Heaven, you probably also assume that cats go to a better place – wherever that may be.

Do Cats Have An Afterlife

Your understanding of your cat’s afterlife is going to be dictated by what you believe the afterlife to be.

Some people will think of the afterlife as a different thing.

Christians are going to think of the afterlife like heaven. For animals, you might not think that they’re going to go to purgatory, which is a Catholic view of the afterlife.

Other religions see the afterlife as a stepping stone to reincarnation. The afterlife is almost like a “holding room” until your cat is given a new life.

Of course, some people are non-religious and may not have such a specific view of the afterlife as religious people.

Where Do Cats Go When They Die

We’ve talked about Heaven and the afterlife, but you still might be wondering where cats go when they die.

Again, this isn’t a question that is easy to answer. Everyone will have a different perspective of where cats go, whether it is an abstract afterlife, heaven, or the Rainbow Road.

You can find complex answers to questions like whether cats should eat grains or what fruits keep your cat healthy.

For questions like this, I think it is better to end with saying this: Wherever your cat goes, whatever you may believe that place to be, know that your cat is in a better place and is still watching over you from wherever he may be.
