Siamese cats change color due to the season and temperature. You’ll notice that your Siamese cat will get darker or lighter depending on their age as well.

Here are some of the reasons why your cat will start to change color:

• It is winter, so your cat’s coat is getting thicker and darker.
• The summer months cause your cat to lose the thick winter coat, leading to your cat lightening up.
• Your cat is getting older, meaning that your cat will get gray hairs or turn darker. Siamese cats are more prone to turning darker.

Most of the reasons why cats turn darker or lighter are completely normal and do not mean that there is something medically wrong with your cat.

Do Siamese Cats Change Color As They Age

When a cat is born and throughout their adult lives, they are a certain color. As they get older and older, you may notice that your cat begins to change color. 

Just like with people, cats can get gray hair as they age. You won’t notice this as much if you have a cat with a lot of white fur, but it is happening slowly.

You may not see a lot of white or gray furs on your cat’s body, but you will start to see light hairs on your cat’s face. Your cat’s snout will start to be sprinkled with white hairs, which is normal for all cats, including your Siamese cat. 

I haven’t seen many cats that turn completely white like humans do. Most cats will have flecks of hair peppered in rather than turning completely white.

Although getting gray hairs is common, cats can also get darker as they age.

Why Do Siamese Cats Get Darker As They Age

You may notice that your cat gets darker as they age, which is true.

Although cats can get gray or white hairs as they age, it is also possible that your Siamese cat will get darker as they age.

You’ll start to notice this with the darker places on your seal-point Siamese cat.

Getting darker may sound counterintuitive to what we just discussed, but it makes sense why your cat gets darker when getting older.

Your cat will start to get darker because their overall body temperature decreases because there is less blood flow.

This happens in places like your cat’s tail, snout, and ears – the very places where your seal-point Siamese is darker.

All cats – not just Siamese cats – change color with the temperature and seasons, which is normal.

Your cat won’t drastically change color depending on the temperature, but you may notice that your cat starts to look a little lighter or darker. 

Again, your tan cat won’t turn black in the winter, and your dark brown cat won’t suddenly become white when you start to see the sun more often.

There are two main reasons why your cat looks lighter in the summer months when the temperature is higher. 

First, one of the reasons is the sun. Your cat will probably spend more time basking in the sun in the summer, which can lighten his fur.

The isn’t going to bleach his fur massively, but you may do a double take when you look at your cat because he looks slightly lighter than usual.

The other reason, which is the main reason, is that your cat “blows” his winter coat in the summer months.

Your cat’s fur will get thinner in the summer because he doesn’t have the heavy winter coat that he grew to keep warm. (Don’t worry; we’ll take about this more in a minute.)

Neither reason will drastically change the color of your cat’s fur, but you will notice that your cat looks lighter than usual when it is summer. 

Do Siamese Cats Get Darker In The Winter

Yes, Siamese cats get darker in the winter. 

Siamese cats do get darker in the winter, but you won’t find that your light tan cat will suddenly turn black when the winter comes.

Not only do Siamese cats get darker in the winter, but it is also something that happens to all animals with fur.

In order to stay warm, cats develop a thicker undercoat that helps them brace against the colder weather.

Most cats have an undercoat that is darker than their normal coat. Even if it is not much darker than their usual fur, you might find that the increased coat means that your cat will look darker than usual. 

You’ll see why your Siamese cat got darker in the winter when your cat begins shedding his winter coat; you’ll see how darker your cat’s undercoat is. 

How Long Do Siamese Cats Get Darker

Your Siamese cat will look darker throughout the winter months and then will lighten up as the weather begins to warm.

For most places in the United States, the coldest months last from December to February or mid-March. 

Your cat will start to grow its winter coat in November and begin to shed it in March or early April.

This means that your Siamese cat will look darker for about five months. 

This means that your Siamese cat will look darker than usual for almost half of the year, but this is based on your cat and the kind of climate you live in.

For instance, you might find that your Siamese cat does not get darker with a thick coat because you live in a warmer part of the United States. Your cat won’t need the extra fur and, thus, won’t get darker.
